HIVED’s 2023 Year in Review
At HIVED, we’re on a mission to change the way goods are moved around the world, building the first sustainable parcel delivery network at scale. 2023 marks the year in which we have shown all that it means to put that mission into practice, working with some of the largest international retailers on their deliveries and only expanding our impact as we grow.
2023 was a year full of milestones: we announced our Series A funding round, moved into a new huge depot and office, and completed our life cycle analysis in partnership with Planet A, quantifying our environmental impact with new degrees of accuracy. Our 100% electric fleet has only grown this year, expanding to new vehicle types and exploring trials with sustainable tyres. We are growing at lightning speed and 2024 will only accelerate that trajectory.
Before we get to the big plans in 2024, though, let’s highlight some of the amazing milestones of this past year!
People
People are at the core of HIVED. In 2023, we more than doubled our headcount and now sit at more than 1,000 people across our driver, depot, and HQ staff. Plus, 17% of our full-time staff started off as HIVED drivers and now work across our operations engineering, marketing, and live operations teams!
This year, we also welcomed Roger Hassan as HIVED COO. Roger was previously COO at HelloFresh, scaling their global operations to IPO in 2017, and CEO of Echo Pharmacy, the fastest growing online pharmacy, which led to acquisition and a rebrand as LloydsDirect. He’s brought a wealth of experience and energy to the team, taking us into 2024 with plans for some serious scale.
Impact
Every parcel delivered at HIVED saves 56% to 76% emissions when compared to traditional parcel delivery. To date, we’ve saved the amount of CO2 emissions it would take to charge over 20 million smartphones, or the intensity emitted by burning 90 tonnes of coal.
Additionally, we are always thinking about the future, enabling many innovations in the sustainable transport space, including a trial with sustainable tyre company ENSO. We also believe the future is circular, and as such have joined the Elemental Excelerator to increase circularity in the logistics industry, with a trial of reusable packaging in 2024.
Trajectory
HIVED is building something entirely unique: a modern, highly-rated, and sustainable parcel delivery network. Delivering for companies such as ASOS, Karen Millen, Sky, and Zara, retailers of all sizes choose HIVED as their delivery partner to offer their customers a seamless experience from online order through to delivery. Here’s what some of them had to say:
"Our engagement with HIVED has been positive from the start. The service has been excellent and the customer experience via their innovative tracking and attention to detail has been really impressive."
- David Parsons, Group Head of Delivery Solutions at Boohoo Group
“Working with HIVED makes so much sense for us: they operate a 100% electric fleet for their deliveries, so that there’s never a question of whether or not the delivery is sustainable.”
- Jaimie Laing, Candy Kittens
“We put consumers at the heart of everything we do, and so it was a no-brainer for us to work with HIVED as a delivery service. It now means our e-commerce customers are receiving an even better delivery experience, plus HIVED’s sustainable service aligns with our positive impact mission. It’s been so easy to onboard and we’ve already started hearing great feedback from customers.”
- Lucy Busk, NICE
2024 will be another year of rapid scaling at HIVED, with expansions to new locations and innovations in sustainable transport. Follow our growth journey on our LinkedIn and Instagram, and stay tuned for some exciting news along the way!
