The HIVED difference

HIVED announces collaboration with The Tyre Collective

We’re excited to announce our newest collaboration with The Tyre Collective to reduce the impact of tyre wear on the environment.

We’re excited to announce our newest collaboration with Terra Carta Design lab winners, The Tyre Collective; a clean-tech company, dedicated to reducing the impact of tyre wear on the environment. This partnership is set to focus on advancing research in capturing and reducing airborne particles emissions.

This collaboration comes at a key moment, as awareness of the significant impact of particulate matter (PM) emissions from tyres continues to grow. With the number of vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs), steadily increasing, PM is predicted to become the most significant vehicle emission. As the second largest plug-in car market in Europe in 2022, the UK market shares reached 23.9% at the end of February 2024, which indicated the increasing popularity and demand (citaevcharger.co.uk).

Despite the growing number of electric vehicles on the road, there are still no ready-made solutions to reduce tyre wear emissions. This gap in the market presents a valuable opportunity for HIVED to support innovative research and position itself as a leader in sustainable technology.

The pilot project

The partnership marks the start of a trial, starting in August, where Tyre Collective’s 4th generation prototype (TC04) device will be fitted on five HIVED vans. The devices will sit behind each tyre, and capture tyre wear particles using electrostatics as they are produced during driving. The PM data collected by each vehicle will be analysed by the Tyre Collective in order to assess the performance of the device.

Gemma Neal, Head of Impact at HIVED shared: "This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to not only provide the best customer experience possible, but to also provide one that minimises our impact on the planet. Through addressing this often-overlooked source of pollution, our work with The Tyre Collective demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, as well as our dedication to setting new standards within the logistics and transportation industry.”

The Tyre Collective Co-Founder and CEO, Hanson Cheng added: “Our partnership with HIVED marks a significant milestone for The Tyre Collective. We share a mission to reduce particulate matter for a cleaner, healthier environment, and together set a new standard to address non-exhaust emissions in the logistics sector.”

By proactively recognising the key issue of particulate matter emissions from tyres, HIVED is taking significant steps toward a broader solution. Through addressing this often-overlooked source of pollution, The Tyre Collective collaboration with HIVED demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking environmental practices as well as our dedication to setting new standards within the logistics and transportation industry.
