An introduction to HIVED: Parcel delivery reinvented
Let's do a quick fact check. According to the Centre for London, compared to 25 years ago, vans in London now clock up 54 per cent more miles. Over 450 million parcels were delivered in London in 2020. That's roughly about one per week for every Londoner. In other words: A LOT of packages!
A lot of parcels mean a lot of vans, vans that run on fossil fuels for the most part. And with an ever-increasing number of parcels getting delivered each year, that can only mean more and more carbon emission and air pollution, and an increase in congestion of the cities we call home.
The negative impact on the environment is terrible on its own, but that's only part of the problem. Customer service is also notoriously poor, and unethical business practices are rampant. For instance, according to Citizens Advice, over 5 million people in the UK had parcels lost or stolen in 2020.
But don't worry; we are on our way to changing all that.
What is HIVED?
We don't like to brag, but since the system was broken from beginning to end, we basically had to reinvent the wheel by redeveloping the whole process from the ground up. We also knew that we needed to include other factors besides air pollution to be completely sustainable. We didn't want to compromise things like pricing, good customer service, or social responsibility.
With a lot of hard work, data analysis, and advanced software, we came up with a system we could feel proud of:
Sustainable. Our entire fleet is entirely electric for carbon reduction and sustainable deliveries. No short-cuts, no off-setting, no "fossil-free" replacement fuels, or anything of the sort. Everything is powered by renewable electricity (and lovely humans).
Customer service at its best. Never feel lost with our friendly customer service team. They always reply within minutes.
Better pricing. Because of our innovative tech, we're much more efficient than traditional couriers. That means our pricing is more affordable while offering a premium service.
With HIVED, companies can reduce their carbon footprint — and you can look forward to receiving parcels. Just better all-around for everyone, from start to end, from warehouse to doorstep.
No system is perfect (not even ours)
Now, it sounds pretty good when you put it like that. But we're only doing the best we can. The reality is that even if we pride ourselves on being sustainable and having the best customer service possible, we understand there is a still lot more to do. Part of our mission is also to constantly challenge ourselves to do better and ensure that we're doing the right thing for both the planet and our people.
